Our involvement in the community goes beyond presenting concerts. We are committed to creating opportunities for young people to experience music, encouraging the development of young talent, and helping to build the audiences and musicians of tomorrow.
The future of music starts with giving young people a place in it.
A Platform for Young Accomplished Musicians
HMS presents renowned and internationally acclaimed musicians to our audiences while also opening the stage to exceptionally talented young musicians, many of whom are already accomplished performers, as they embark on their professional concert careers. By giving them a platform and an audience, we hope to support and encourage the next generation of outstanding musical artists.
Supporting young future musicians — our Handevat partnership
We are proud to support the Handevat Music Project in Kleinmond, an organisation dedicated to developing young people through music and bringing communities together.
Handevat gives learners from communities with limited resources the opportunity to learn instruments, participate in ensembles and orchestras, attend workshops and masterclasses, perform publicly, and develop both their musical abilities and confidence.
As part of our ongoing involvement with Handevat, HMS provides complimentary tickets for Handevat learners at every HMS concert.
Where possible, we also arrange for our visiting concert musicians to spend time with the learners before the performance. Workshops, demonstrations and informal sessions give these aspiring musicians the opportunity to meet professional performers, learn from their experience and be inspired by their musical journeys.
We hope that these encounters will encourage young musicians to continue developing their talents and to see themselves as part of the wider musical community.
Bring a child — share the joy of live music
A love of music can start with a single concert.
Through our Bring a Child initiative, every adult purchasing a full-price HMS concert ticket can bring one child free of charge.
It might be a child’s first experience of live music. They might discover a new instrument, be captivated by a performer — or simply enjoy a special evening of music

Through our partnership with Handevat, we inspire the next generation of musicians and through our Bring a Child initiative, we encourage young people discover the joy of music by being part of a live audience.
These initiatives are about access, inspiration and ensuring that the next generation has the opportunity to experience the transformative power of music.
