About Us

The Hermanus Music Society has been active in the Overstrand for nearly 25 years during which we have showcased more than 155 concerts. 
 
HMS is dedicated to promoting quality music and talented musicians to an appreciative audience. At HMS, we also believe in the transformative power of music. HMS values and supports the  nurturing of young talent through music development  initiatives  in under-resourced communities – helping to foster the next generation of musicians.
 
From inception in 2002, HMS presented concerts at the Bouchard Finlayson winery nestled in the beautiful Hemel and Aarde valley. It was the beginning of a unique harmony between music and wine with the especial support of music-loving winemaker Peter Finlayson. Over the years the concerts took place in three different venues on the farm – the Barrel cellar, the Homestead cellar, and then the Harvest Barn. In 2023 both the winery and membership evolved and needing more space we were delighted to have moved to our current venue, the charming Bergsig Street Gereformeerde Church, with its excellent acoustics and ample parking, conveniently situated in Sandbaai for attendees coming from all sides of greater Hermanus.
 
Hosting seven concerts annually, HMS offers a delightful social event featuring exceptional performances, fine wines, and gourmet canapés.
 
The concerts aim to bring together distinguished local, as well as international musicians, a sophisticated audience of classical music enthusiasts, wine connoisseurs, and individuals who appreciate the finer things in life.
 
These events feature a curated selection of compositions performed by talented musicians; the music for each concert thoughtfully paired with premium wines sponsored by a renowned wine farm.
 
The synergy between music and wine elevates the overall experience, creating memorable moments for our guests.
